Windows PC: Unable to Create Saves
Some players on Windows PC are experiencing issues with making saves and autosaves. The game appears blocked from making saves, and a permissions error might pop up when it tries to save.
Workaround: This could be related to the Controlled Folder feature available on Windows PCs. To check if you have Controlled Folder access enabled, follow these steps:
1) Navigate to your Windows Settings, then click though the menus. Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat protection > Ransom Protection > Manage ransomeware protection
2) Once in the Manage ransomeware protection menu, select "Allow an app through Controlled Folder Access" and then "+ Add an allowed app"
3) Click "Recently Blocked Apps" and select the Civ7 exe file. If you don't have this in your Recently Blocked Apps, you will have to navigate there yourself. It will be in your local install files under \Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VII\Base\Binaries\Win64\Civ7_Win64_DX12_FinalRelease.exe
That's it! Your Controlled Folder Access will remain on, but Civilization VII should now be able to make saves on your computer. Happy exploring!

We have an update to share! We have identified several other causes for save files not populating on PC.
- If you have your Windows "Documents" folder set to redirect to a network drive. (Network Attached Storage)
- If you are using Windows Controlled Folder access and have not allowed Civilization VII.
- If you have Non-Default settings on your computer's "Documents" folder. This includes any modifications made by software or hardware that may modify folder permissions/locations.
Please note that any major changes to the "Documents" or "My Games" folder could be causing this behavior. If you're unsure, try disabling any storage/permission configuration changes to see if that helps!
