"Out of Scan Range" Error

The game plays the introduction videos, my monitor switches to standby mode, and then "Out of Scan Range" appears on the screen.

Workaround:

Browse to the installation folder, open the file named "Civilization3.ini", and add the phrase "refresh=60" (without the quotes) on a new line in this file. Resave the file and load the game up again.

NOTE: Editing game files can have unintended effects. If you notice issues after editing the file, fully uninstall and reinstall the game.
