If you're having some trouble with your Meta Quest VR and Civilization VII, we have some basic troubleshooting that might help you out!

Updating Your Software

In cases where your software may be out of date, it's always good to run a quick check to see if an update is waiting for you, and if so get that up and running.

To check for software updates:

  1. Press the Meta button / Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
  2. Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick Settings.
  3. Select Settings in the top right.
  4. Select General, then select Software Update.

From here, you can check your current software version. If a new version is available, a button to download the update will appear.

When there is a new software release, your Meta Quest headset should update automatically when connected to Wi-Fi and turned on. To ensure your software updates automatically:

  • Charge your headset.
  • Keep your headset turned on.
  • Keep your headset connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Leave your headset on a flat surface without moving it or blocking the inside sensor for an extended period of time.

To manually force the update if it doesn’t happen automatically, you can use the software update tool. This tool lets you update your device's software, even when the device itself is unresponsive.

Hard Rebooting the Device

We've all heard about the power of turning it off and back on again in troubleshooting, and the Meta Quest VR is no exception! Just hard reboot your device by holding down the power button for 30 seconds, until you hear the device turn back on.

Windows PC Requirements for Meta Quest Link

When you're using the Meta Quest Link to connect your Meta Quest headset to a Windows PC, you'll need to make sure you meet the compatibility requirements:

Cable Requirement:

Meta Quest Link requires a high-quality USB cable capable of supporting data and power. You'll also want to make sure that the USB cable is at least 3 meters (10 feet) for an optimal and comfortable experience.

Auto-detection and compatibility issues

If you're experiencing issues with auto-detection or compatibility, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements listed above.
  2. Check that your graphics drivers are up to date.
  3. Try disabling any unnecessary programs or background applications.
  4. Restart your computer and try launching Meta Quest Link again.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Factory Reset

This is the last-resort method for solving device issues.

  • Performing a factory reset is irreversible and will remove all account information, downloaded games and content from your Meta Quest.
  • Performing a factory reset won't remove content you've purchased or downloaded from your account.
  • Turning on cloud backup allows you to save your device's app data and settings before you erase it.
  • Ensure that your headset has at least 50% battery life before performing a factory reset.

The best guide for performing this full Factory Reset is found on Meta's Help Center. Check out the instructions found here.
