In every multiplayer game, a little toxic rain must fall. Some players will behave badly, abuse chat options, and generally violate the Civilization VII Code of Conduct. But a good community is prepared, and so we have this guide to help you navigate the rough waters of high tension and bad behavior!
First - retaliation is off the table. Just because someone acts like a jerk doesn't mean you should react the same way. Instead, use these tools to report and/or block the offending player's chat. Keep your battles to the field, not the chat box!
Reporting and Blocking
Blocking: The easiest way to deal with a player that is generating inappropriate chat is simply to block the offender. To do that, all you have to do is:
- Open the Social Menu
- From there you can view your Friends list, your Block list, or a list of the players you are currently in a game with or were recently in a game with
- Select Block for the player in question
That’s all it takes! If you block in error, your Block list has a red circle next to the blocked player's name that you can use to unblock, too.
You and your fellow players can also choose to vote-kick an inappropriate player from a multi-player match.
Outside the game, you can view your block list on portal.2k.com as well.
Reporting: If another player truly steps over the line, you can report them to 2K so we can conduct any appropriate investigation.
- Open the Social Menu
- From there you can view your Friends list, your Block list, or a list of the players you are currently in a game with or were recently in a game with
- Select Report
- Choose the category you are reporting them for and then submit
You will not receive a confirmation, but rest assured it will be sent to us. There is no field to add details, screenshots, or other information - if you have screenshots or videos you would like to provide in support of your report, be sure to submit a ticket with this evidence.

FAQ
Q: What happens after I make a report?
A: After submitting the name and reason for your report, you’ll return to your campaign to continue building your legacy. While you won’t see a confirmation, rest assured your report has been delivered to the council for review. Q: Can I cancel a report after submitting it?
A: Once you’ve submitted your report, it cannot be withdrawn, but we will be sure to do any investigation and review we need before taking action.
Q: Is there a language filter?
A: Yes, all chats in Civilization VII will have a basic language filter designed to reduce foul or offensive language. There is no way to toggle this off, it will always remain on for you.
