Single Player

When you're looking to go it alone against game-run opponents, Single Player is the mode for you!

As you're setting up a single-player game, you will need to choose a leader, the Age you want to start your game in, and a Civilization from the Age you select. Afterward, you can adjust settings such as difficulty level, game speed, map type, size, and additional options of your choosing.

Multiplayer

If you're looking to test your mettle against other people, Multiplayer is your mode. All multiplayer games will require you to link your 2K Account to your platform account (Steam, Epic, Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch).
On Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, and Epic up to five players are supported in the Antiquity & Exploration Ages, and up to eight players are supported in the Modern Age. On Nintendo Switch, up to four players are supported in the Antiquity & Exploration Ages, and up to six players are supported in the Modern Age in games. For crossplay games with Switch players, map size and number of players will need to match Switch options.

There are a few ways to connect to this mode:

  • LAN - Local Area Network, available for Steam/Epic players, lets you reach out to your nearby friends and family for close competition!
  • Internet - An internet game for any platform lets you extend your opponent reach across the globe. In this way you can select an open match, set up your own match, or using "Quick Join" to be automatically matched with other players looking to get started.
  • Wireless - Nintendo Switch players will have a Wireless mode to engage in multiplayer with their nearby friends and family.

When creating a game, you’ll have similar set-up options as you would for single-player, including the
ability to restrict Age Transitions for a standalone Age game.
