Civilization VII: Third-Party Party Mods FAQ

Does Sid Meier's Civilization VII support modding?

We know that mods are an enriching part of the game experience for some players and it’s important for all players to have a fun and fair gaming experience.

With the June 2025 Update (Update 1.2.2), Civilization VII officially rolled out support for Steam Workshop along with an initial version of the Modding SDK to help the community create, debug, search, and upload mods to Steam Workshop. While 2K or Firaxis don’t officially endorse, support, or make guarantees about any user-created content, mods that have the capability to impact fair play or modify game memory files may result in a poor game experience, technical issues, or inability to log into Civilization VII.

I installed a modification tool outside of Steam Workshop and my game is not working properly. What do I do?

If you are running a tool that has the capability to gain an unfair advantage or modify game memory files, then you may run into crashes. Trying these methods may help you regain access:

  • Close any third-party program that may be running
    • You may need to fully uninstall your third-party program or mods
  • Ensure you have the latest drivers installed and have restarted your PC

For more details around prohibited software, please see our Civilization Code of Conduct. If the issue persists or there are still questions regarding a specific accessibility issue, please submit a ticket to our Customer Support team. Keep in mind, our support team will not be able to assist directly with mod support.
